With his pockets tilled with money, Stewart sold his mineral interests at a substantial profit to pursue a legal career. Stewart’s former instructor and law partner was compelled to take a leave of absence as Attorney General, and selected Stewart to fill in. He went on to serve as DA in Carson City, then two terms in the United States Senate. Died in Washington, D.C in 1909.
